Memphis (then Memphis State) was Division I in football in 1973, playing their last year in the Missouri Valley Conference, which was Div. I at the time, including football schools North Texas, Tulsa, New Mexico State, Louisville and West Texas State.

Oh, I forgot Wichita State, which was still playing football at the time, and is the alma mater of Bill Parcells.

I think it could be argued that Duke football hasn't competed at the highest level in years.

Realistically, Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke should be on this list.

After doing more research Memphis, Dayton, Santa Clara, and Indiana State were removed. Also NYU, Bradley, and Villanova lost an appearance as they were Independent in football at that time, if you spot any more mistakes let me know.

Technically speaking, UMass has never made the Final Four.

@MarciniakUCF- Yeah, i kept the vacated final fours because even though the team cheated, they still won the games to make it to the final four. Taking money didn't make Marcus Camby any better at basketball.

You need to study up a little more on "major" college football programs. UNLV, Temple, Uconn, and Western Kentucky all are FBS schools!

I thought Connecticut did have a football team...they are part of the Big East Conference, or at least whats left of it.

@robhop: In 1999, UConn football was in the Atlantic Ten Conference, which: 1) no longer exists and 2) was a D I-AA conference. It wasn't until the 2000 season that UConn started playing football in the Big East.

@1906cubs - That money might not have made Camby any better, but it made UMass better. That's what people have a problem with. If Camby hadn't taken the money, UMASS probably wouldn't have gotten him, and in all probability wouldn't have made it that far.
