How many capitals can you name in 60 seconds? For the purpose of this quiz, only the capitals of UN recognized states, plus Taiwan and Kosovo, were included. Credit goes to Sporcle user miyomiyo1, who created the original blitz-quizzes. You can find his quizzes here: http://www.sporcle.com/user/miyomiyo1.

might want to mention that these are country capitals, not state capitals. Some people may guess wrong & will lose some seconds if you don't.

What kind of country has 195 states? But I edited the heading, just in case.

27. Would be more if I hadn't kept misspelling New Delhi.

Yep, I decided typing out Guatemala City and Pyongyang were more constructive uses of my 60 seconds than Rome.

I'm sorry, I feel that there are TONS of unpublished quizzes out there that deserve recognition more than this. This is cute, but it doesn't really have a point.

Thats seriously stressful... just trying to get your brain not to jump around madly and be efficient. Which I totally failed to do.

Oddish,
I think Golden nailed what the "point" of this quiz is. Unlike many of the other "blitz" quizzes (books of the bible, presidents, states, elements, etc.) there's no "natural" order to go through the answers here. Combine this with a list that's far too long for anyone to come close to finishing and a set of answers that often require a bit of thought to arrive at, and you've got a nifty test of efficiency.

Okay, admit it, everybody who typed Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte was just trying to mess with the statistics.

Interesting to find out what your brain pulls up. I didn't even know what Monrovia was the capital of, must be too much sporcling.

That didn't go near as badly as I thought it would. Managed 25 just trying to remember those short enough to type efficiently.

It is fun to see how the brain can deal with such pressure. besides efficiently going for the same name capitals, I managed to get out Kigali, Andorra La Vella, and Tegucigalpa...no clue.

What I think is really interesting about this quiz is the results page gives a detailed insight into the most famous capitals in the world - according to SPorcle users (and, let's face it, we're the ones that matter most ;o) ) - I know there will be anomalies but I think over time it'll be interesting to see which capitals are in the first column - and so far they are not the shortest ones first!!

So has the "Sporcle standard" capital of Palau become Ngerulmud now? It was usually just Melekeok before.

@Onno: Don't think so, but Palau's capital is, and has been since 2006, Ngerulmud, not Melekeok. Melekeok and Ngerulmud are separate villages, located about 2 km apart. Both are located in the
state
of Melekeok though, maybe that's why people seem to think Melekeok is the actual capital. Look at the image below and you'll see the location of both Melekeok and Ngerulmud:

The list is far too long for a blitz quiz. Divide it up into continents; Europe, Asia, and Africa would provide decent challenges for 60 seconds.

This quiz is great practice for testing my Words Per Minute. Aside from that it has no value. I would say this quiz gets a 6 out of 10.

O goddess! My brain totally froze up, and all I could pull out of it were hard to type capitals like "Tegucigalpa" and "Copenhagen". Finally I said "short! Short!" and I got "Rome" and "Paris" and "Lomé". (Lomé?!?!?)

Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte is the capital of Sri Lanka. Thing is, I bet the quiz also accepts Colombo. So that's why it's above a lot of others.
