	Yes, Americans definitely have an advantage on this one...lol. Especially those of us from one of these states (I hail from Massachusetts) where you have colonial history drilled into your brain from the moment you set foot in school. Good thing I like history!

	Well, it took Oglethorpe a while to convince people that shipping all the felons halfway around the world so they could form a productive colony was really just to get them out of Britain.

	@ JSCHEN - Vermont was actually the first state admitted after the formation of the USA. There was a period of four years (1777-1791 I believe) in which Vermont was independent from Great Britain but not yet part of the US. Vermont actually coined its own money during this time

	Most people think American history began in 1775, check that first date up there, 1607. Yea we were mostly English, but even in the 17th century we were getting immigrants from different parts of Europe. We also ignored British trade laws and bought sugar from the Cubans ;)

	@Kevin - Vermont was a part of New York, but New York mostly sided with England in the Revolution, so the "Green Mountain Boys" of Vermont refused to be a part of New York due to that, even after they agreed to break away. Which caused them to be briefly independent until a compromise was reached.

It probably didn't hurt that I've lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine and Vermont, so I'm good with spelling the tough states names, and I'm familiar with the history. Yes, what is now Vermont was part of New York once upon a time, and Maine was part of Mass. I agree the time limit requires you to be pretty quick, but that's what separates the men from the boys on this one. Great quiz, Sporcle.
