	@Jeffhabfan: Well, you're partly right. It is the name of the country in every language--except for those people who insist on still living in the English-speaking world circa 1970. As an aside, there are other countries that still use their language versions in common use (Spanish-speaking countries use "Costa de Marfil," Portugal and Brazil use "Costa do Marfim," and German-speaking countries use "Elfenbeinküste") but will use "Cote d'Ivoire" for official purposes.

	@Jeffhabfan Just because their government says so doesn't mean the whole world has to follow. It may be true that most other governments followed in order to uphold diplomatic relations but they cannot change the common usage (of those >99% that aren't government officials and don't care what some foreign government might think of them) in other languages.

	Blubb, even the CIA World Factbook uses Cote d'Ivoire rather than Ivory Coast - and the WF is very picky about nation names (they still use Burma, for instance, even though everyone else in the world knows it as Myanmar).

	I think that it's silly that countries should accept the French name "Cote d'Ivoire" for Ivory Coast. I am glad that we in Sweden still use the Swedish name for it - "Elfenbenskusten". We also still use the name "Burma" for what other countries call Myanmar. Myanmar is the name the bloodthirsty military regime wants us to call the country.

	I do wonder if the people behind the decision to insist that Cote D'Ivoire only be referred to by it's French name always refer to all the other countries in the world in their respective native languages. I doubt it lol. Seems a bit ridiculous of them to insist their country get special treatment that they don't give to other countries in return.

	Calling Côte d'Ivoire the Ivory Coast is like referring to Burkina Faso as Upper Volta. Just accept that the name has changed, and move on. Lots of countries have funny-sounding (to English speakers) names because they have their origins in other languages. Deal with it.
