How is is possible that someone managed to play 155 or 160 games when the baseball season was only 154 games long back then? They didn't go to a 162 game season until much later.

I think it might include games called because of rain or darkness, so they technically played in more games than were scheduled. If that's true, though, then wouldn't Gehrig have the most? When did his streak start again?

One of the most impressive feats of the 1927 Yankees was the fact that from the time spring training ended until the season ended they didn't make a single roster move. They used only 25 players all season. Just for some comparison, the 2010 Yankees used 43 players in only 8 more games.

There were a lot of tie games in those days too, so you would sometimes play 2 or 3 more games. Baseball reference lists the secondbaseman as playing 153 games, so Gehrig still leads the team as he should
