Missing Letter Blitz

by gunthertoody

Featured November 16, 2014

About the Quizmaker

Missing Letter Blitz is gunthertoody’s 10th published quiz, which means it earned him the Homepage Hero badge! This brings his total number of badges up to 16. He’s been a user since August 2011 and he’s played just over 4,000 quizzes since then.

What’s the Quiz About?

Missing Letter Blitz is a quiz full of four letter words. Each word has one letter missing and you have to figure out which letter of the alphabet should be there to complete the word. Each letter is used once in this quiz, so there are 26 words to figure out. This quiz is a blitz, which means that you have very little time to complete it. In this case, you have a minute and 30 seconds.

There is a nice mix of easy and challenging words, so one strategy you can use is to cycle through the words once, just getting the words that are obvious to you. This will help in the second cycle, where you have to think a bit more to figure out which letter is correct. Your choices will be narrowed down so when the timer flashes red at 10 seconds and you start frantically clicking, you’ll be more likely to get some answers right.

Missing Letter Blitz was played 31,325 times on the 16th and it has a rating of 4.2.

First 10 Countries with a McDonalds

by GeogTeacher

Featured November 6, 2014

About the Quizmaker

First 10 Countries with a McDonald’s is GeogTeacher’s 1st quiz to be published, but he’s contributed 11 other quizzes. He’s been a Sporcle user since October 2009; he was one of the first people to sign up. He’s played almost 2,000 games since then and has 33 badges. Thanks for being awesome, GeogTeacher.

What’s the Quiz About?

Can you figure out which countries had the first McDonald’s? If you can, then this quiz is for you. You’re given the year that the restaurant was first built in the country, and you have to give the country. The first country should be a given, in fact, 99.5% of users get this country right. (Hint: It’s the USA). The rest of the countries are less obvious. Some countries are far more surprising. You have 3 minutes to enter all 10 countries. This isn’t enough time to just list countries randomly. Try to be logical about which countries you’re trying. Put yourself into Ray Kroc’s mind. If you were trying to get your Big Macs in every corner of the world, where would you start?

First 10 Countries with a McDonalds was played 24,391 times while it was on the front page and it ended up with a rating of 4.3.

Nine Number Logic Puzzle

by sparkey77

Featured October 30, 2014

About the Quizmaker

Nine Number Logic Puzzle is sparkey77′s first quiz to be published! He has contributed 11 other quizzes, all logic puzzles. He’s been a Sporcle user since August 2013 and has played almost 1,200 games since then. He has 14 badges and has left 71 comments.

What’s the Quiz About?

Nine Number Logic Puzzle is a quiz that asks you to figure out which number goes in which box. There are 25 boxes, and each of them has a number (1-9) in it. It’s up to you to figure out which number belongs in each box. Like with any other Logic Puzzle, there are hints to help you along the way to solving the puzzle. This quiz requires no guessing to know which number goes in each box. You also don’t need any prior knowledge to help you with the hints, just a basic understanding of arithmetic. This is a particularly tricky Logic Puzzle, with only 6.3% of people getting all the numbers right. Many users played this quiz multiple times in hopes of getting a higher score. Logic Puzzles are tricky to do but when you finally get 100%, it’s very satisfying. How many tries will it take you to figure out the logic puzzle?

What did Users Think?

el_bandito commented “managed to complete it first time :) really enjoyed it – thanks!”

Truvy wrote “loved the game! Needed to think and reread some clues many times, that’s the fun of the game :)”

And beletbon commented “one of the harder puzzles I’ve taken on this site, but really enjoyable! kudos!”

Nine Number Logic Puzzle was played 48,540 times while it was on the front page, and it ended up with a rating of 4.4.

Band Names by Literal Images

by slipkid

Featured October 16, 2014

About the Quizmaker

Band Names by Literal Images was made by slipkid, who has been a user since June 2010. He’s made 819 quizzes and has had 202 quizzes published. He’s played 2,309 quizzes total and has 70 badges. He also is a curator for our Spanish subcategory and an editor for our Entertainment category.

What’s the Quiz About?

This slideshow quiz shows you images that literally describe a band name. Each slide has 2 pictures right next to one another. Each picture gives you a clue for part of the band name. Using the clues, you must figure out which band the slide is referring to. You have five minutes, which gives you enough time to think about each slide and try to solve the puzzle. As with many quizzes, especially slideshow quizzes, a good strategy is to do a preliminary run through, answering anything that seems obvious to you. Then you can make your way through the slideshow again, taking more time to actually think about what each band could be. Some of them are tricky, so if you get stuck, it might be helpful to move on and come back to it later.

What did Users Think?

naturalghost commented “More quizzes like this, please.”

ImperialTopaz made us laugh when he wrote “You know it’s early when you try typing “Herb Women” instead of Spice Girls…”

And megascarp commented “I enjoyed that. Looking forward to a sequel.”

Band Names by Literal Images had a fantastic day on the front page, getting played 26,641 times and ending up with a rating of 4.3.

Tricky State Capital Click

by butterfly75

Featured October 13, 2014

About the Quizmaker

Butterfly75 made Tricky State Capital Click and it’s her first quiz to be published. She’s made three other quizzes. She’s been on Sporcle since March 2011 and has played just over 6,000 games. She has 93 badges. Great job, butterfly75.

What’s the Quiz About?

This quiz lives up to its name. It’s a tricky way to find out how well you know the US state capitals. This clickable quiz has decoys throughout, all of which will end the game if you click them. That’s right, this quiz is a minefield. Hidden among Little Rock, Atlanta, and Denver are Seattle, New Orleans, and Louisville. The time limit is something you have to think about as well, as you have only 2 minutes to find the correct capitals. This quiz is over a topic that most people learned in middle school, so you should know the right answers. It’s frustrating to get an answer wrong because you know you can do better. So you try again. How many times will it take you to get 100%? It took me 6 tries. Can you do better?

What did Users Think?

Yeti_ commented “Good quiz butterfly75, make more of these!”

kenweaver said “Man, I knew my grandfather and parents excessively drilling me on state capitals in Kindergarten would eventually pay off. Got all in :58. Awesome quiz.”

And rddiid97 commented “Capitals in any variation……………always fun”

Tricky State Capital Click did very well during its stay on the front page. It was played 60,748 times and finished with a rating of 4.1.

A-B-C-D-E Quiz

by cwfuturewrestler

Featured October 6, 2014

About the Quizmaker

A-B-C-D-E Quiz was made by cwfuturewrestler, and is his first quiz to be published. He’s contributed 95 games, many of which have been editor or curator picks. He’s been a user on Sporcle since July 2011, and since then has played over 8,000 games. He has 101 badges total. Congrats on your first publish, cwfuturewrestler!

What’s the Quiz About?

The concept of this quiz is easy enough. You have 3 minutes to click A-B-C-D-E in that order, as many times as you can. There are 150 letters to click. Beware, if you make a mistake, the quiz will end. You’ll have to try again if you want 100%. The short amount of time and the large amount of letters made many users make mistakes in their clicking order. Starting off this quiz, you’ll feel confident, like you’ve got this in the bag. You’re going to get that 100%. But when you get to the halfway point, all the letters will start melting together. ‘Is that a B or an E? Maybe it’s a C? What am I even looking for?’ When you get to this point, you need to refocus your eyes and calm down a bit. Take your time, figure out if you’re looking at a B or an E. If you aren’t too frantic in your clicking, you should be able to get the coveted 100%.

What did Users Think?

Christus said ‘I like this unexpected quiz. Thanks for creating it and congrats on publishing.’

Paco777 commented ’100% with 4 seconds left…Who thought strategy could be used in this game?’

And butterfly_2011 commented ’12 seconds left! It really helps when you scroll down just enough to hide the clock, you’re more relaxed and focused :) Great quiz! I’d love to see one with lower-case b’s, d’s, p’s, and q’s.’

A-B-C-D-E Quiz had a great day on the front page. It was played 42,285 times and ended up with a rating of 3.6. It seems we Sporclers really know our A, B, C’s.

Featured September 24th, 2014

About the Quizmaker

The featured quiz this week was made by beforever, and he’s made a total of 676 games, 79 of which have been published. He’s been on Sporcle since March 2009 and he’s played almost 24,000 games. He has 114 badges and is a curator for our vocabulary and typing subcategories. He is also an editor for our geography category. You’re great, beforever, don’t ever change.

What’s the Quiz About?

You have 4 minutes to correctly choose all 15 parts of Dexter’s morning routine in the order that he completes them in at the start of each episode. If you’ve seen the whole series, then you’ve seen this intro sequence 96 times. So this quiz should be easy, right? You’ll quickly find out that your beloved title character’s morning routine is more complex than you anticipated. You start off well, getting the first couple of answers correct. Then you realize that this is the part of Dexter’s routine when you usually stop paying attention. Hopeful, you click coffee beans. BOOM! You should have clicked egg.

What did Users Think?

amandaplease said ‘I never realized just how awesome and intricate the opening sequence is until now. I mean I have always known it was brilliant but all the little stuff adding together.. gross, awesome, gross.’

MovieGuru expressed everyone’s frustration when he said ‘You’d think after 8 seasons, I’d be able to breeze through this. Nope.’

And Number1LostFan commented ‘Good quiz! It took me forever to figure out the order of his breakfast! After I got that, I flew through it.’

Dexter’s Morning Routine Minefield had a fantastic day on the front page, where it was played 28,000 times and ended up with a rating of 3.5.

Sporcle Speed-Picking

by BillyJoelRulez

Featured September 17th, 2014

About the Quiz Maker

This week’s featured game was created by BillyJoelRulez, and this is his second game published. He’s been on Sporcle since June 2010 and has played over 18,000 games. He’s earned 113 out of 115 badges (wow!) and has contributed 154 games. He’s the curator of our Mario and Console subcategories as well. Thanks for being amazing, BillyJoelRulez.

What’s the Quiz About?

With 50 questions and only two minutes to complete this quiz, you have only 2.4 seconds for each question. There are ten categories, each with five answers. For example, when the category European Countries comes up, you have to find the five countries hidden among answers like Missouri, Up, Rocky, and Lincoln. With other categories like U.S. States and Pixar Movies, this may seem like an easy task. But this is where you’ll run into trouble. If you let your guard down and forget about the time limit, you’ll run out of time faster than you can spell Kyrgyzstan.

Take a deep breath, stretch a little, and click play.

What Did Users Think?

brewersbadgers1 said ‘Took me three tries, that was an excellent quiz. I sure have a knack for finding four out of 5 every time…’

Rinaldo made us laugh when he commented ‘I’m just WAITING for someone to say that the time needs to be reduced on this one!’

And helix212 filled Rinaldo’s request when he wrote ‘First try with 4 seconds to spare. Way too much time. :)’

This quiz had a marvelous time on the homepage, where it was played over 36,000 times and came out of it all with a rating of 4.4.
