This is part of the Sporcle blog’s long-running a series highlighting some of our hard-working curators. Curators are editors for a specific subcategory, and their diligent work finding great quizzes from their subcategories (and sometimes others) helps to shape the site. We asked our curators to complete an interview of sorts, and we’re sharing their responses here on the blog.

Reddit Quiz Competition: Wrap Up

reddit

Congratulations to our Reddit Quiz Competition winner, redhed311!  The winning quiz was the clickable Refrain from Assuming. You can find the quiz with a curator pick under the Lyrics subcategory.

If, for some reason, you were hiding in a hole last week, we hosted a Reddit Quiz Competition, in which users could submit a quiz they felt worthy of a curator pick to the comments of this Reddit post. As it turns out, redhed311′s quiz was exactly what we were looking for in terms of creativity, originality, and overall fun.

It was fantastic going through all of your submissions, and we encourage you to keep sharing your quizzes on the Sporcle subredditThank you to all those who participated!

Reddit Quiz Competition!

reddit-alien

Do you remember that time when knowing what time the narwhal bacons was popular? We’re bringing it back. Well, maybe not the phrase, but the website that coined it, Reddit. For those unfamiliar with Reddit, it’s an online community where people can post pictures of cats, and then post those same pictures of cats again a few weeks later when they think no one will notice. The popularity of the links and comments posted is determined by a point system called “karma.” Users can vote posts up and down based on their relevancy to a particular subreddit. That’s where we come in! Sporcle has had its own subreddit for a while now, and in order to get this Reddit party started, we’ve decided to hold a Reddit quiz competition!

If you have had a quiz in the past that you thought was amazing, but it went unnoticed, here’s your chance to gain some recognition! You will be allowed to submit your quiz to the comments of the Reddit post describing the competition, and SporcleHQ will pick a winner based on these criteria:

1. The quiz must be posted in the comments of the Reddit post.

2. It has to be unpublished.

3. Most importantly, your quiz should be fun and original.

The competition will run from today, June 7th, until next Friday, June 14th, and the winner will receive a curator pick in the appropriate subcategory. Who knows, maybe if your quiz is up to par, it will get published. There aren’t any guidelines to the subject matter of the quiz or the quiz type. All we ask is that you keep it clean and appropriate.

We encourage you to upvote your favorite quizzes on the Sporcle subreddit and share this with your friends/fellow Sporclers to get more people involved! Good luck!

All About Doctor Who

The British have taught us many wonderful things over the years – how to queue, how to drink tea, and how to embrace kidney pie. Yet one of the most important things they’ve taught us might be the importance of an alien with two hearts speeding around in a blue box that’s bigger on the inside.

For those of you that don’t know, the BBC aired a show in 1963 called Doctor Who – a Sci-Fi series about an alien Time Lord named the Doctor, who travels through time and space in a ship called the TARDIS. The Doctor has the ability to regenerate or change form, a nifty trait that has allowed different actors to take on the role over the years. And with the upcoming 50th year anniversary, Doctor Who will be the longest running Sci-Fi series in history.

If you aren’t yet a Doctor Who fan, you could embark on the particularly ambitious task of marathoning all 700+ episodes, but be ready with your fishsticks and custard because you are going to be glued to the television for a solid month. To help get you started, I’ve composed a short list of frequently asked questions from both Whovians and non-Whovians alike.
