Better Know a Curator: DesertSpartan

This is part of Sporcle’s long-running series highlighting our hard-working curators. Curators are editors for a specific subcategory, and their diligent work finding great quizzes from their subcategories (and sometimes others) helps to shape the site. We asked our curators to complete an interview of sorts, and we’re sharing their responses here on the blog.

This next post is from DesertSpartan, curator for show.

1) How did you first get involved with playing Sporcle?

I stumbled across the site, once I started playing I was hooked.  I played for a few months without an account.  I created an account so I could contribute quizzes and reward quizzes that I liked.  This was fun, but when I started communicating with others, things became great.  I have a lot more fun and make better quizzes.  I became a curator to help others and to help introduce others to quizzes that I enjoy.

2) What are your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?

I have always been partial to sitcoms:  Name that Sitcom.

Another that I liked:  Fictional Colleges.

3) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?

I really enjoyed 30 Greatest Cult TV Shows.  It was a great idea by a relatively new quiz maker. I also love that this quizmaker took suggestions and turned a great idea into a great quiz.

There are both published and unpublished quizzes like this quiz, Broadway Shows by Antonym.  Show is not just about TV.

4) What are your favorite published quizzes from an entirely different category?

These quizzes are really great:

Works of Art (Odd One Out)

Less Exciting Movies

5) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from an entirely different category?

US State Ranking Showdown was quiz is one of many very original quizzes that I love.

I also really love  Guitar Legends.

6) Are there any quizzes you’ve made that didn’t get the attention you were hoping for?

I thought Lemmon or Mattau would be a big hit.  It involves two great actors and is in a user-friendly format:

Other than…(Questions for Biblical Figures) was an EP and CP and is in Religion, so I only expected so many plays, but I thought it was my best quiz and from my best series.

7) Who’s a user whose games you think deserves more attention?

khands has some publishes, but I still think lacks the recognition commensurate with quiz quality.
