The Sporcle blog is running a series to highlight some of our hard-working curators. Curators are editors for a specific subcategory, and their diligent work finding great quizzes from their subcategories (and sometimes others) helps to shape the site. We asked our curators to complete an interview of sorts, and we’re sharing their responses here on the blog.
This next post is from BanjoZebra, curator for logo and Halloween.
1) How did you first get involved with playing Sporcle?
My friends were playing Largest Countries Minefield in math class, and they told me it was on this website called Sporcle. I checked it out at home (originally visiting sporkle.com, and then correcting my self), and I was instantly hooked.
2) What are your favorite published quizzes from your subcategory?
When it comes to Blitz quizzes, a lot of them are just the same old “Name as many ______s as you can in under 30/60 seconds.” But some of my favorite blitz quizzes are all of betraisefold’s Match ‘Em Up Blitz quizzes and citkeane’s Blitz Blockz. There aren’t too many published Halloween quizzes, but MovieGuru’s Halloween Murder Mystery is a terrific and very well-crafted logic puzzle.
3) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from your subcategory?
I normally play an average blitz quiz once, but I’ve played NJSB’s awesome Blitz: Red, White, or Blue nine times. It’s a simple and perfectly-executed hybrid between Blitz and This or That (or That). As for Halloween, MrChewypoo’s YOU Make The Quiz – 300 Halloween Words was just genius.
4) What are your favorite published quizzes from an entirely different category?
I think I’m going to have to choose rockgolf’s Progressively Tougher World Capitals. It’s so simple, but it was such a great idea.
5) What are your favorite contributed quizzes from an entirely different category?
Yikes. This is really difficult. But I think this quiz is certainly one of the best.
6) Are there any quizzes you’ve made that didn’t get the attention you were hoping for?
Well… there’s a lot of them. This Day in Months in History: 1st, Top 10’s, and Pixelated Beatles Albums, just to name a few.
7) Who’s a user whose games you think deserves more attention?
Popestcyril is certainly one, with only three published games, and ChicagoGuy88 also has a handful of great quizzes.
Um… the link on #5 leads to a YouTube, not a quiz. I can’t watch YouTube, so I don’t know if this is correct, but it is there.
